River Boats, Big Tex, and Pumpkins

Time with my parents is always a gift especially now that I have a daughter. Their latest trip to Dallas was extra special as they are both officially retired. We only had a week, but we packed it full of fun activities and adventures. The week kicked off with a trip to San Antonio where we enjoyed yummy food, a boat cruise along the river, and a tour of the quintessential icon of San Antonio...the Alamo!

Helping Grammy decide where we should each lunch!

Any trip to Texas in October would not be complete without a visit to Big Tex at the State Fair. Michael and I talk about the Fletcher Corny Dogs and Lemonade Skake-Ups all year...no joke! I am sure it comes up in conversation at least once a month. We also look forward to trying the new and best fried desserts. This year I tried the Fried Reese's Peanut Buttercup with Blue Bell Ice Cream...worth every cent. Our good friend and experienced fair goer was able to join us making the day even sweeter.

Dad tried the Fried Shrimp Boil for Uncle Joe!

We ended the week with a trip to the Flower Mound Pumpkin Patch. I loved seeing my dad pick out Katie's first pumpkin. It is just the right size and she seems to like it! Of course we had to take some cute pumpkin pictures. Katie was enamored by all the little kids and colorful pumpkins.

She sat on her first red tractor. Grandpa Van Grouw would be proud!

Katie provided daily entertainment with her smiles, giggles, and mouth noises. I love seeing my parents fall more in love with her each time they visit. Thank you mom and dad for making your long trips to Texas and creating forever memories.

  1. I am so happy that you and your family are able to arrange frequent visits! You will have so many stories to tell (and show!) Katie when she is older!
