We had so much fun celebrating Katie's 1st Birthday this weekend. We packed it full of flowers, walks, pictures, presents, and cupcakes! Saturday we headed to the Dallas Arboretum Tulip Festival. My little Dutch-self was so happy to see the beautiful tulips. Mike loved taking Katie's pictures and Katie loved people watching...and hugging her lamb :)
On Sunday the plan was to wake up, go get donuts (for us), and head to church. But who are we kidding, we woke up way too excited and gave Katie her cupcake before church! First time parents...gotta love 'em. Katie wasn't too sure about the cupcake at first, but she did clap for the cupcake. This only further confirmed she is my daughter because I clap for cupcakes too :) Very gradually she started picking off pieces of the frosting and eventually became more daring grabbing bigger pieces of the cupcake to eat. In the little video we took, it sounds like she is saying, "Nom, nom, nom!" So I think it is safe to say she truly enjoyed her first taste of sugar!
After church, she was too excited to sleep (or maybe that was us again) so we opened presents! Her reactions were priceless and we had so much fun watching her clap for the presents and burst out in random giggles. She got Ohio State pom-poms from her Auntie Stephanie, but I think I might have been a little more excited than Katie about that gift. She seemed a little scared of the poms! Don't worry Walkers, we have all summer to teach her some cheers before football season. After a much needed nap we took a walk and finished the day FaceTiming with family. On top of all that excitement, she was also cutting her 4 top teeth at the same time. So needless to say, she was ready for bed when evening rolled around.
Living out my lifelong dream of being a cheerleader right here in this moment! |
We had been looking forward to this day for many weeks and it didn't disappoint. I still can't believe it has already been a year, but I have loved getting to know our daughter more each day. She truly is a gift!
