Christmas 2015: Part One...Just a little late!

When Michael and I first got married, we started a tradition of celebrating Christmas early with just the 2 of us. We have continued this tradition every year as we live away from both of our families and travel during the Christmas season. This gives us a chance to celebrate at home before things get too busy :)

Last year was our first Christmas as a family of 3, and we had the most wonderful time sharing the joy of the season with Katie. This year we were even more excited as Katie was at an age where she could better understand and participate in all the festivities.

We opened presents early in the morning on Saturday, Dec. 12th. I know people say Christmas is fun when you were little, but watching your own child open presents and smile in delight is much more fun! We don't want the main focus of our Christmas to be around getting more stuff, so we tried to make sure every present for Katie was fun, but also something she needed or would help her learn through play. No surprise here, but books were at the top of Katie's list. Oh, and anything Frozen :) Michael and I also exchanged presents and thoroughly enjoyed spoiling one another! We don't usually buy things for ourselves during the year, so we enjoy this time of giving to each other...and we usually go slightly over budget ;)

In the afternoon, we ventured over to Prestonwood Baptist Church for their spectacular performance called The Gift of Christmas. We have been wanting to go since we moved to Dallas, but this was the first year it worked with our schedules! And the show did not disappoint! From flying angels to suspended snare drummers, it captured your attention from beginning to end. The best part was the beautiful live nativity at the end! It was a wonderful way to reflect on Jesus Christ's birth, and the gift He is to the world.

We finished the night with dinner at our favorite restaurant and Christmas movies at home. It was truly a wonderful day, and I treasure our sweet family tradition!

  2. I just love how her favorite gifts are books! When you sent me her list, I was so excited to see books and educational play toys and puzzles. :)

I love hearing about the Christmas traditions of others. And I can't wait until next Christmas with baby brother! :)
